Letters of Recommendation
The Graduate School application requires three (3) letters of recommendation.
The Letter of Recommendation common form asks recommenders to rate applicants on the following characteristics:
Analytical Ability, Research Skills, Initiative/Responsibility, Diligence/Persistence, Written Communication, Oral Communication, Interpersonal Skills, and Creativity/Originality on a scale of Top 2%, Top 5%, Top 10%, Top 25%, Top 50%, Below 50%, Unable to Judge.
Further, the recommender is asked to state how likely she or he would be to hire and/or accept the applicant at her or his institution in a similar program. The recommender is asked to provide against which group of students she or he is rating the applicant.
Another set of questions asks the recommender how long and in what capacity she or he has known the applicant and to describe the applicant’s outstanding talents or characteristics, as well as chief weaknesses and areas for growth.
Recommenders may choose to upload a letter of recommendation. If your admissions committee needs the recommender to address any further questions about the applicant, please provide those instructions to the recommender below.
